2020 has been an interesting year for the film industry, with many releases being pushed back to 2021. This, however, is good news for next year - cinemas will hopefully see less disruption when it comes to audiences watching films and delving into buckets of popcorn.
Here is a list of the top 5 scheduled film releases of 2021 that are worth keeping an eye out for!
No Time to Die (April 2nd 2021)
Originally scheduled to be released back in November 2019, No Time to Die is the 25th instalment in the ‘James Bond’ franchise. Starring Daniel Craig and Ana De Armas, the spy-based blockbuster was hyped up at the original time of its release. The feature song No Time to Die, written and performed by Billie Eilish, flew to the top of the charts and helped boost the advertising for the film. Despite Covid-19 delaying the films’ release date more than once, this action-packed movie will be one to buy a ticket for as every James Bond film is renowned for its cinematography. Let’s just hope the release date stays the same!
A Quiet Place Part II (April 23rd 2021)
This Horror/Sci-Fi acts as a sequel to the first film, A Quiet Place, released back in 2018. Directed and acted by Husband-and-Wife duo John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, the original film did amazingly well in the box office and earned 340.9M US Dollars. Many people loved the first film, so the sequel has been highly anticipated for some time now.
Cruella (May 28th 2021)
Adding to the collection of live-action Disney remakes, Cruella tells the classic story of 101 Dalmatians. Similarly to the Bond situation, this film was set to be released in December 2020 but was delayed due to Covid-19. With famous names such as Emma Stone and Emma Thompson making up part of the cast, along with how popular the original film was, this is not one to miss and will make for a nostalgic trip to the cinema.
Top Gun: Maverick (July 2nd 2021)
Sequel to the famous 80s blockbuster, the highly anticipated Top Gun: Maverick is set to be released halfway through 2021. With a budget of 152M US Dollars, along with a chilling trailer that gives you Goosebumps (pardon the pun), it seems as though it will be another masterpiece like the original. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise, two notable figures within the film industry, it is set to be a box office hit when it arrives in cinemas.
West Side Story (December 10th 2021)
Based on the 2005 musical, the remake of West Side Story is set to be a successful release, starring the likes of Ansel Elgort, Maddie Ziegler and directed by Steven Spielberg. Similarly to most films or musicals that have been around for a while, sometimes a remake is needed and with modern-day cinema and technology, I can only imagine this will be amazing to watch on the big screen.
Make sure your popcorn is at the ready as many other films are also set to be released in 2021, making it a promising year for cinema!
