December has arrived which means we are mere weeks away from Christmas. Although there is some controversy around when it is acceptable to listen to Christmas music and start celebrating (I would argue the 1st November is completely fine), the winter months have arrived and if you want to get into the festive spirit, here are some activities for you to do around Sheffield.
Christmas Market
The Sheffield Christmas Market is back this year, after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic. It officially opened on Monday, 15th November, featuring over 50 log cabins containing various food, drinks, gifts and decorations. This year, expect to see an Alpine Bar, churros, and a traditional German sausage grill, to name a few. The iconic Big Wheel will also be back in the centre of the city which can’t be missed. Be sure to check out the Peace Gardens as well, where more Christmas lights and décor can be found.
Ice Skating
Ice Sheffield, located next to the EIS Stadium, is the perfect place to go this winter. Skating sessions are on every day of the week and can be booked online. The yellow tram line from The University of Sheffield stop (just outside The Information Commons Library) can be taken to the Arena/Olympic Legacy Park stop and the ice rink is just a 5-minute walk away from here.
Decorate your flat
A visit to Endcliffe Park from the 18th November could result in you buying a real Christmas tree for your living room. The company ‘Tree Amigos’ will be based in the park, selling trees of different shapes and sizes. However, if you would rather a tree that doesn’t require as much looking after, shops such as B&M and Home Bargains are perfect for affordable decorations that can transform a house into your very own Winter Wonderland.
Festive Bottomless Brunch at Revolution
Throughout the month of December, Rev’s on West Street are hosting different themed bottomless brunches on Sunday 5th, 12th and 19th December from 11am-4pm. The events are inspired by the films ‘Mean Girls’, ‘The Grinch’ and ‘Elf’. The brunches are from £25 per person, and you can book a place on their website. More details will be uploaded to their Instagram account, nearer the time.
