Exercise for lots of us is dreaded, yet it’s been proven time and time again that it’s the best possible practice for us to lengthen and improve the quality of our life. So, it’s important to find something that gets you moving and makes you excited to put on your trainers.
Starting off with a cheap form of exercise is running, but more specifically run clubs. These are extremely accessible and can be found all over social media. Whether you’re wanting to train for a marathon or are a complete beginner just wanting to start to get out the house and meet new people there is a run club that fits your needs. A run club also provides a lot of safety for women in the darker months as running in a group is far safer and most feel much more comfortable than running solo, as well as being a perfect chance to build community! It’s also a great form of exercise to see some of the beautiful parks and landscapes around you with a route that you don’t even need to plan.
If you find yourself being bored by common sports like tennis or trailing to the gym every week there is also a variety of fun and different exercise classes to get you moving in a way that you don’t usually. If you’re looking for a full body workout to get toned, I would recommend a climbing or pole class! These are usually under £15 for an hour or two and could become your favourite part of your week. Having the routine of a class will always motivate you more than sporadic gym trips and an unused membership that weighs on your conscience.
Ultimately it’s important that you find a form of exercise that excites you otherwise chances are it’s not going to stick. Factors like building a strong community and being able to make time for it each week makes a huge difference in the longevity of an exercise-based hobby. Ultimately, it’s about finding what works for you, it’s all trial and error- so get out there and give it a go!
