Teddy bear coats have become somewhat of a staple in our AW wardrobes. They have been popular for quite some time, long before they appeared in every Topshop or Zara window. Apparently, the coat and its warm properties were popular with motorcyclists in the 1920s.
Their popularity is undeniable and since they first hit the mainstream in 2017, this style of coat is still seemingly on everyone’s minds and purses. But how do you style these coats and what should you pair with them? Style is completely individual but here are a couple of ways I style mine.
I have two teddy bear coats - a black, waist-length one from ASOS, which is extremely versatile, and a knee-length, tan-coloured one from Monki. A great way to keep warm but still look fashionable is by layering; layering doesn’t have to be just practical! Style a black, long-sleeved high neck under a dress with tights and black ankle boots for a look ready for day or night. If you are looking to add a touch of glamour, why not accessorise with some chunky gold jewellery? If the weather is a little deterring, a pair of black flared jeans, a jumper and some knee high boots will take you all the way through winter.
With a different coloured coat, like my tan one above, you still have plenty of styling options. My white bodysuit and chunky trainers, and blue mom jeans are my go-tos when wearing it - this attire will have you looking casual yet effortlessly stylish, which is why so many people cannot get enough of it. Want to try another look? Why not wear an old faithful black, high-neck bodycon dress with ankle boots.
Jeans, skirts, dresses, boots - you really can mix and match with this style of coat. They are set to remain trendy for a long time to come, so get styling!
