Whether it’s in front of a mirror or someone else, undressing can be a daunting prospect. It’s no surprise some people need a confidence boost every now and then – but is lingerie past it's time and do we really need it to feel sexy?
Over the past two years, the Savage x Fenty lingerie shows have been praised for the confidence they’ve given to such a diverse range of individuals – no matter your size, gender or race, Rihanna’s range is guaranteed to give you a push in the right direction to becoming the more confident individual you’re destined to be.
It isn’t just Rihanna’s range that’s taken social media by storm, as underwear brand Lounge knows how to work their magic – every influencer you know and love will have been seen in Lounge underwear at some point or another, and can we blame them? With the variety of shapes, styles and colours their sets are available in, something will catch your eye as you’re scrolling through their feed or website.
But in a society working towards everyone feeling body confident and loving the skin they’re in, is it time to bare all? I think so.
Undeniably, it’s nice to dress up for your significant other and of course they’ll appreciate the effort you’ve put in – but if they don’t appreciate what’s underneath more, it’s time to get rid. Just think about what you could’ve bought with the amount of money you spent on all those matching sets.
I know we don’t just do it for others and there’s no greater satisfaction than knowing you’re colour co-ordinated beneath your clothes – even if no one else has any idea – but it’s our capitalist society that’s led us to believe this is the epitome of self love. You’re unlikely to find any lacey numbers for short of £35 on the Lounge website, yet we’re so quick to make the purchase when we’re lacking self confidence and need a pick-me-up.
No, we don’t really need lingerie to feel sexy. If it makes you happy then by all means carry on splashing the cash on matching sets until your heart’s content – but nothing should make your heart more content than looking in the mirror and feeling confident.
Feeling sexy comes from within, so don’t let influencers lead you to believe some triangles of lace are the answers to your body confidence issues you’ve been searching for all along.
