Fashion trends come and go quicker than you can say the alphabet. Social media challenges and fast fashion brands contribute to this quick consumerism, making it harder to be on trend. Here are the current and upcoming SS21 styles you need to look out for. Though, don’t get too attached as before we know it, we’ll be planning our autumn wardrobes.
Bermuda shorts
These long line shorts are perfect for the summer months. They flatter all leg shapes and are light enough to wear in the warmth, whilst simultaneously looking classy and fashion forward. Their mid-thigh length makes them ideal for those looking for modest and trendy summer pieces. They made their debut last summer but never took off until recently, following the 70s and 80s style revival. They can be purchased in both jean and sweat material, and can even be DIY-ed at home with a pair of old trousers that need a revamp.
Crochet knit clothing
Despite popular belief, crocheting can actually be super fun, and you can make so much more than just scarves. Crocheting makes fashion more accessible, as you can easily find tutorials online and trendy items won’t come with a hefty price tag. If you'd rather buy than DIY, there are many small businesses who make incredible crochet clothes, from dresses to cardigans, and even bags. Supporting small businesses over massive corporations is the way to go.
Hibiscus/floral print
Maybe it’s because we’re all in desperate need of a holiday, but Pinterest can't get enough of the hibiscus/hawaiian floral pattern at the moment. It’s dominating SS21 wardrobes and it’s easy to see why. The fun colours and intricate designs can be easily incorporated into any outfit, whether it be a plain look with a floral headband or scrunchie, or opting for a full printed dress. Floral patterns always have been – and I believe, always will be – a timeless and versatile choice for summer.
Chunky and acrylic rings
Long gone are the days of minimal or no jewellery. Now, it's all about stacking rings as high as they can go – and chunky rings are a perfect way to do that. They can elevate your outfit to the next level, especially if your colour scheme and silhouette are minimal. Their uniqueness will make it appear like you’ve put a lot of thought into your look and are such a fun addition. If you’re apprehensive about adding a pop of colour to your wardrobe, chunky rings are the ideal way to ease yourself in.
