Christmas is just around the corner and so comes the time to blast out your favourite classics, whether that be while driving to the supermarket for last minute Christmas day supplies or turning your house into Santa’s grotto once it hits the 1st of December.
But what about the music videos, which have been played millions of times on YouTube, that accompany these hits?
Here are my top five favourite Christmas music videos!
1. Justin Bieber- Mistletoe
I find that this is a bit of a ‘marmite’ song when I put it on at Christmas parties, but I highly doubt my friends will argue against the fact they dreamed of being the girl who Justin Bieber gazes at lovingly in the video. It may be extremely cringeworthy but let’s be honest, most Christmas music videos are.
2. Wham!- Last Christmas
This is one of my all-time favourite Christmas songs. This music video shows friends coming together to ski in a magical winter setting, having fun and enjoying a mouth-watering Christmas feast. This is another video with a romance element, but this time between two friends, one of which is lead singer George Michael. The video creates a will-they-won’t-they element between the two as they stare at each other across the room, with it eventually being revealed through flashbacks that they were a couple last Christmas. Overall, the video is essentially what it says on the tin, with very explanatory visuals to match the song lyrics.
3. Mariah Carey- All I Want For Christmas Is You
Definitely my favourite ever Christmas song, with another fun video summing up the mood of everyone in the weeks leading up to Christmas day. The upbeat music video shows a mixture of shots of Mariah Carey (who looks like she had a lot of fun filming it) preparing for Christmas. It involves a montage of conventional Christmas shots, including snow falling, a huge Christmas tree covered in lights and baubles, as well as Mariah sledging in the snow. The best part for me is the reindeer and the adorable dogs that feature, all wearing reindeer ears. If watching this video doesn’t get you excited for Christmas day, I don’t know what will!
4. Leona Lewis- One More Sleep
Having played this song multiple times in the past week, it is now ingrained in my head but I’m not complaining! Leona Lewis’ video is another that shows what Christmas is all about, and that is friends and family members coming together over Christmas time, enjoying festivities and having a delicious Christmas dinner. The warm and cosy atmosphere throughout the duration of the video makes the countdown to Christmas even more exciting.
5. Ariana Grande- Santa Tell Me
This video gives me flashbacks to being in high school and having sleepovers a few days before Christmas, sporting Christmas onesie’s and pyjamas and being full of joy while dancing like no-one’s watching. The animal hat, scarf and gloves all-in-one that Ariana and her friends wear, of which was a staple winter accessory when I was 13, makes the video nostalgic to watch.
