After burying ourselves under a puffer coat and scarf all winter and not having to worry about our fashion choices, the return of spring often leaves us in a fashion frenzy. As we return to flattering fits’ and co-ordinated lecture attire, what should our shopping spree baskets look like this term? Here’s our favourite spring looks to help you stand out in the lecture crowd this semester!
Reinvented denim
Denim makes a swift return to our wardrobe every spring, but this year, it comes with a sustainable twist. With the current push for sustainable fashion- and each pair of new jeans using 3800 litres of water to make- it’s little wonder that fashion moguls around the globe have looked for ways to bring their old denim back to life.
The Hadid sisters have both shown us how to rebirth their old denim attire. Gigi donned a maxi-denim skirt at Paris Fashion Week, while her sister revived the 1990s double denim in her bra and jean denim Givenchy pairing.
The Naked Dress
First coined by Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) in Sex and The City, The Naked Dress is less of a trend and more of a pop culture craze. Revived in 2022 thanks to Kim Kardashian’s iconic Met Gala feat in Marylin Monroe’s ‘Happy Birthday President’ nude gown, the Kardashian’s once again proved themselves a pioneer in fashion trends as more and more celebs have since been spotted in the gown. The look is perfect for a spring date night or university ball.
The moto jacket
If there’s anyone to determine what we wear from season to season, it’s Rihanna. The star was recently spotted in an oversized leather bomber jacket that took off on YSL’s runway earlier this year. Wear this look over some jeans for a stylish but casual day-to-day look, or layer it with a maxi dress for a daring night time look. And, don’t panic if you can’t afford YSL, the look is available at Bershka for just under £60!
Metallics
As the weather gets warmer and the 'jeans and a nice top' trend comes back, the metallic tee is a perfect option for a night out on west street. As seen on Gucci's SS23 'twin show, metallic gowns can also make a perfect choice for spring formals.
