The top three Christmas adverts of 2021 so far

It's that festive time of year again, and with this season comes the return of Christmas adverts, evolving year after year. Apart from the Coca Cola advert, of course.

They range from happy to sad, comical to moving, and old to new, meaning it is easy to feel lost when thinking about which ones stand out from the rest. With that being said, I thought I'd share my top three Christmas adverts of 2021 so far.

Amazon Prime - 'An Unlikely Friendship'

Arguably the best Christmas advert I've seen in years, An Unlikely Friendship tells the story of a hyena who bonds with a zookeeper over the content they watch on Amazon Prime. The zookeeper then adopts the hyena as his pet and throughout the advert, the pair are seen laughing at various shows on the popular streaming service.

I was instantly hooked when I first saw this advert. It is heart-warming and wholesome, despite being somewhat similar to a John Lewis narrative. If you haven't already, I would definitely check this out if you want to get in the festive spirit.

Featuring Marcus Raddishford and Jim Broadbent as the narrator, it is no wonder this advert is extremely clever.

The storyline is based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and focuses on Ebanana Scrooge, a banana miserable about Christmas. After being shown how good the festive period can be, the banana then gets in the spirit, and buys a carrot family a Christmas pudding. Still following?

The moral of this story is also mentioned at the end, where the narrator says: "For you to be happy, you need to be kind." This is a great message to remember around Christmas and there is definitely lots to be taken away from this advert.

John Lewis - 'Unexpected Guest'

In another Liberty Belle article, we reviewed the 2021 John Lewis advert – and that says a lot about how good it is. When Unexpected Guest first aired on TV back in November, I wasn't the biggest fan and instantly compared it to the company's previous adverts featuring Monty the penguin and the Snowman.

After giving the advert a few more watches, I have concluded it is touching and definitely tugs at the heartstrings. I think the song Together in Electric Dreams completes the narrative and makes for a great Christmas advert.

Although these are my favourites, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the other great Christmas adverts that have recently hit our screens.
