Your go-to gift guide for Christmas 2020

With just over a week until Christmas, you’re probably in full Christmas shopping mode. If you’re still unsure about what to get your loved ones, here’s a few recommendations for family, friends and yourself (because after the year we've had, you deserve a treat).

For your family

Wallet

This is a good present if you, like me, find it hard to buy presents for your dad. One thing to note: make sure the layout of the new wallet is the same as his old one! You can purchase a good quality leather wallet from about £20, which is perfect if you’re on a budget. My suggestion is the Polo Ralph Lauren classic leather wallet, which is £55 and sold on ASOS.

Charm bracelet

Charm bracelets may be on the expensive side, but they’ll last for a long time to come. Get a loved one a bracelet and you can gift them charms over the years. My personal favourite is the Pandora Charm Bracelet, £55, with a Christmas snowflake charm, £25.

Slippers

Who doesn’t want warm feet when walking around the house in winter? Everyone can use a new pair of slippers, especially now we’re spending more time inside than we usually would. Slippers fit into any budget and come in every form. How about a fluffy pair of pink, quilted slippers for your female family members? You can’t go wrong.

Pyjamas

Alike to slippers, comfy pyjamas are a very fitting gift given the current circumstances. From fleece to silk, you can find the perfect pyjamas for all your family – maybe they’ll double up as something cute to wear on Christmas day at home? Primark is the place to go; you can find themed PJs, based on Harry Potter, Stranger Things or Winnie the Pooh, for just £10.

Tie

Why not buy your male family members something nice to wear when our lives eventually go back to normal and office attire is worn daily again? You can find ties in every price range, from funky to classic. However, nothing beats a sleek, silky black bow tie, which you can find on ASOS for £6.

For your friends

Personalised jewellery

Having been popular on Etsy for a while, I discovered personalised jewellery is an ideal present this year. Whether you want to write the recipient’s name, a quote or regards on the item, you can let your creativity run free. If you’re looking to spend a little more on someone special, the silver moon necklace from Lisa Angel’s Etsy shop may be the way to go.

Hat and scarf

To keep your friend warm when they actually leave the house, get them a woollen hat or scarf. My suggestion: a powder pink, knitted hat, £10, or a light pink scarf, £18, from H&M.

Sunglasses

Although there’s little sun in England during this time of year, kit your friend out for when the nicer days come around. For extra anticipation, add a note saying “For you to wear on our next holiday (whenever that may be)”. How about a matte black, Ray-Ban style pair of sunglasses?

Personalised cosmetic bag

Everyone loves a unique, one of a kind gift. On Etsy there’s plenty of shops selling personalised cosmetic bags in various sizes and colours. Check out BeGiftbyBea’s marble cosmetic bag for £7 on Etsy.

Socks

We’ve reached the age where you get excited about a nice pair of socks. Happy Socks is a great destination for high quality pairs which sport a range of cheerful motifs. Keeping in with the festive season, a pair of red socks with snowmen on are the perfect Christmas accessory.

For yourself

Handbag

It’s been a tough year and you deserve to treat yourself to the handbag you’ve been eyeing up. If you saved up some of your ‘going out’ budget, you may as well spend it on something that makes you happy. For me, that’s the Le Pliage Club bag by Longchamp, £85.

Phone case

One of the best gifts to treat yourself to is a phone case, but why not make it practical by purchasing one with a strap? That way you don’t need to take a handbag or stuff your pockets as you can carry your phone across your shoulder or around your neck. I bought myself a Xouxou phone necklace, which I highly recommend - especially as they’re currently on sale for £19.

Earrings

If you’ve been bored during lockdown, you’ll have undoubtedly been scrolling through the internet looking at shiny things. An affordable pair of silver earrings are the addition your jewellery box needs, but spice it up with hexagon-shaped, silver hoops from Oliver Bonas.

Loungewear

This is a must. The pandemic showed us you can never have too many pairs of joggers and jumpers. A matching set you can wear outside (quite trendy actually) or just to lounge around the house in is extremely versatile. My pick: the soft sweat and jogger set in shade mink, £30, from ASOS.

Jewellery box

Haven’t we all been annoyed to find our jewellery in a complete mess, taking us at least 10 minutes to detangle? If so, this is the present for you. Treat yourself to a jewellery box, which will make it easy to transport your shiny possessions from your uni house back home - maybe the pink Pandora travel box could be the one for you.

Whether you're flying through your Christmas shopping or you're yet to start it, we hope this'll help you get everyone ticked off your list in time. Merry Christmas and happy shopping!
